Marrakesh is one of the most fascinating cities I’ve ever seen. I think it’s impossible to capture the depth of culture, richness of neighborhood diversity, and exotic atmosphere of this Biblically old place in one painting.

I elected to paint this scene in grayscale to enhance the drama of it to more closely convey how it feels to be there. In person, the coloring of the cityscape of these old Moroccan cities and towns would be shades of beige, which just doesn’t translate the town’s character as well as I hope this does.
